Message from the Director of the Graduate School of Health and Nursing Science

The School of Health and Nursing Science at Wakayama Medical University was founded in April 2004 and as of March 2014, it has been in existence for exactly 10 years. Over this time, a early stage doctoral program (master's program) in health and nursing science was established in 2008 due to the need to promote higher quality specialist professionals amid changing medical needs and social structures, and a late stage doctoral program (doctoral program) was established in 2013 due to the need to promote educators and researchers able to contribute to health creation in various health-related fields. In addition, a specialist cancer nurse course was established within the early stage doctoral program in April 2014, and thanks to the great efforts of all those who have been involved, the University now by and large has every program needed by a nursing university.

The early stage doctoral program is comprised of three fields: health science, basic nursing science, and lifestyle and regional health science. The late stage program is comprised of two fields: life-long health nursing science and regional health nursing science.
Whatever road our professionals embark on in the future, I am confident that it will have been foreshadowed by what they learned in the Graduate School, and that this knowledge will certainly come in useful at some point, whether they wish to handle doubts during daily clinical practice in the form of research, join participate in education or research themselves in the future and broaden and deepen their knowledge and insight, improve their specialist knowledge and skills, or return to academia in a university setting (academic environment) for an opportunity to re-examine current conditions. I would like to see as many people as possible enter the Graduate School.
